Artois Hound dog

Today chien d’Artois is the smaller version (up to 58 cm, 30 kg) of the extinct grand chien d’Artois, which is descended from a crossing of a black variety of the Hubertus dog with English hunting dogs.

The Artois hound’s coat is short, sturdy, and tight, of dark fauve tricolor. It is hare- or badger-colored, with a mantle or large patches; The Artois Houndthe head is usually fawn, and sometimes sooty. Its ears are set at eye level, reaching a little, thick, and broad nose with a rounded end that is almost flat and quite long.

Though the record lists the Artois hound as a briquette, it is now principally used for rifle hunting. The Artois hound is an open trailer with the ability to drive the prey close to the trail of the hunter. The dog was formerly used in a pack.
