Austrian Black and Tan Hound dog

The Austrian black and tan hounds, or brandlbrackes, were spread over the Alps and its valleys in medieval times. The hound was first registerd in the Austrian dog breed book in 1884.

The Austrian black and tan hound is closely related to the Tiroler bracke, the Styrian coarse-haired hound, the Slovak kopov, and the Austrian Black and Tan HoundBavarian mountain hound. It is a medium-sized bracke with 48 to 56 cm shoulder height. The “Brandl” has a strong but flexible body. The thorax of the dog is broad, rather deep and long, raising the belly a little.

The head is carried high and is usually heavily trained, with medium length markings above the eyes. The eyes are usually brown, are clear, and have an intelligent expression. The tail is in progress in descending order, directed upwards in the search. The color of the Austrian black and tan hound is black with brown edges.
