Artesien Norman Basset dog

The Artesien Norman basset is directly descended from the basset d’Artois, which is now considered extinct.

This basset is very long for its size (up to 36 cm). Its fur is short and close fitting, but not too fine. Its coat may be bicolor, black or fawn Artesien Norman Basset dogwith white, or tricolor, fawn with black and white. The very long and thin ears are as deep as possible, and never set above eye level. They are at least as long as the muzzle, and preferably end in a point.

Like all basset hounds, this is a dog for hunting small game. Though its legs are short, thickets are no problem for this breed. It hunts spurlaut, i.e., barks on scent, either alone or in a group. It is very durable and is often kept as a companion dog.
