American Eskimo Dog

The American Eskimo Dog is one of the breeds of dogs, belonging to the Spitz group. There does not seem to be support for the breed by the FCI in Poland and therefore does not currently appear in the Polish kennel guide, and rading with the dogs is rare.

History
The American Eskimo Dog is a Spitz, with generally a white coat and while popular in Europe the breed has found adherents in the United American Eskimo DogStates. This is not the only breed as there is a German strain of Spitz as well and these dogs have been bred true to their race for well over 100 years now.

The breed was first registered by the United Kennel Club in 1919, and then in 1958 the first race was described and catalogued for the breed.

However there was no breed pattern established and so only individual dogs were accepted based on their appearance. This then developed into the first registered American Eskimo Club in 1970 – The National American Eskimo Dog Association.

Another club calling themselves the American Eskimo Dog Club of America also dog enthusiasts of this breed were seeking recognition of their breed by the American Kennel Club and succeeded in 1995 and then in 2006, the American Eskimo dog breed became listed on the Canadian Kennel Club approved breeds list.

Types of races
The AKC American kennel club has three types of race on the basis of the dogs height at withers: a Toy: 23-30 cm, Miniature: 30-38 cm and Standard: 38-48 cm.

Character
The Dogs are eager to cooperate and have boundless energy to use, but remain independent; these are recognized characteristic traits of the breed. A problem with the animals can be excessive barking and hyperactivity, yet they are suitable for most dog sports.
