American Bulldog

The American bulldog is a farm dog originating in the southeastern United States.  Used as a guard dog for cattle or for hunting, it is a dog of medium size, athletic, and with balanced character.  It has a rugged appearance, and is compact and powerful so it can move with agility and stamina.

The standard prefers a strong dog to one of fine structure if any morphological excess or excess weight is not present.  Males have a larger structure with a sharper rate than females.

Appearance
The American bulldog must be visibly solid, but slender, and sport lines.  The fur coat should be smooth, short and close fitting.  Its color can be white, or white striped with red or brown.  Up to 90% color is allowed if the white highlight is on the head.  It is not allowed to present a black mask or black spots.

Its skull is long and flat with a well-defined stop.  With medium sized round eyes, the most appreciated eye color is dark brown with black outline.  Blue eyes are permitted but are considered a misdemeanor.
Height and weight:
Male: 57/67cm, 35/55kg,
Female: 53-65cm, 30-45kg.

Snout and dentition: The muzzle is of medium size (5 to 10 cm), square, long and thick.  The jaws are very powerful. The lower jaw should be wide enough to avoid stacking or crushing of the lower American Bulldogincisors.  The lips are thick without hanging up; black pigmentation is favored.  The American bulldog remains a working dog, and should be equipped with a full set of forty-two teeth.  The teeth are not visible when the jaw is closed.
Teething type Standard: This type has reverse scissors teething (incisors of the upper jaw immediately after those of the lower jaw), and accepted prognathous dentition scissors and pliers.
Teething type Bully/Classic: The prognathism is preferred; dentitions scissors, reverse scissors and tongs accepted.
Disqualification: More than four missing premolars, upper jaw prognathism exaggerated or too advanced, canines (fangs) implanted inside, all dental position incorrect or structural abnormality of the jaw taking into account the importance of failure.
Nose: Black pigmentation is preferred, but the nose may be brown or gray, and some small pink spots may be accepted.
Ears: The ears are to be whole, of medium size.  Near the top of the skull, half falling or pink.
Neck: Muscular, of half-length, slightly arched, flattening gently from shoulders to head.  Some folds are accepted.
Shoulders: The shoulders are very muscular with long, protruding shoulder blades.  They are well positioned to prohibit turning elbows outward.
Chest, spine, back: The chest is wide and deep but the width is exaggerated. The spine is of medium size, strong and broad back. The back is short, broad, gently sloping in the same way that the shoulder region. A wave motion of the back is a fault, the importance of which is measured by such a large ripple.
Back: The back is broad and well muscled, the same size as the shoulders, not very wide.  Narrow hips are a serious fault.
Members: The legs are strong and constitute a solid skeleton. The feet are of medium size, with well-arched and tight toes.  The distributed weight is properly balanced on the four members.  The metatarsus is strong and right.  A slight curve is accepted.  However, a lack of depth or a weakness is a serious fault.
The tail: The tail should be whole, thick at its base, and narrow down to the tip.  It reaches the joint of the hock when the dog is relaxed.  It rolls on its tip. In some places the lines are severed.
Movement: When the dog trots, the pace should be effortless, fluid and powerful, with an agile stride. The back line should be level, with the legs moving parallel to the direction of motion.
