The formal name for the four legged creatures is canis lupus familiaris and technically the dog is classified as a subspecies of Gray wolves although the dog species itself is highly diversified with many different purebred types as well as multitudes of mixed breeds.

Before purchasing a dog outside of the training tools you will need to purchase a dog crate or dog bed, water and dog food dish, dog food, and dog toys. Dogs that are left alone on a frequent basis will require more dog toys to occupy their time so that they do not develop separation anxiety or destructive habits.
